Teaching Life: A Professional Development Presentation for Facultyby Award Winning Teacher and Poet Edwin Romond
Teaching Life is a 30 - 45 minute program of original poems about learning and loving the profession of teaching. Romond, a public school English teacher and counselor for 32 years, presents his humorous, touching, and insightful poems that connect with faculty audiences of all ages and grade levels. Topics range from life as a first year teacher to an educator's last class before retirement, from the struggles of a disabled student to the triumph of a school musical cast, and from the anguish of a student's death to the exhilaration of a "dream day" in the classroom.
"At a time when standardized test scores seem to have replaced what is important with that which is urgent, your presentation, Teaching Life, created the perfect pause for reflection, thanksgiving and celebration of all that is still right in our wonderful profession. Administrators who truly care about the people they supervise will invite you to share your wisdom and extraordinary gifts as a writer and presenter. You are and always will be a teacher."
— Thomas J. Rutter, Ed.D
"Your program, Teaching Life, has received absolute raves from everyone on our staff. Your poems spoke to each one of us on many levels and your passion in delivery was both motivational and inspiring. Finding meaningful professional development experiences is indeed challenging but you have filled the bill in a most safisfying manner. It is my hope that you will consider a return visit in the near future."
—William Scurato,

—Monica Steward,
"Ed Romond is a fine writer whose poems speak directly to teachers. His presentation as a featured speaker at the 2003 New Jersey Council of Teachers of English annual conference at Kean University was enthusiastically received. With humor, sensitivity, and a deep understanding of the pleasures and challenges of teaching, Mr. Romond's words as our last presenter of the day sent our attendees home encouraged and supported in their commitment to our profession."
—Marcia Holtzman,
"As a former school principal, and one who has had the pleasure of watching and hearing Ed Romond read his poetry, I can attest to the fact that he is not simply a wonderful poet, he is a magnificent teacher. His poems, particularly those that are about teaching, resonate with those of us who live our lives in the service of children. Funny, poignant, inspiring, and captivating are all words that come to mind when I think of Ed, his work, and his interactions with audiences."
